We’re looking for a Commis Chef to join our team at The Godley Hotel, right on the edge of Lake Tekapo. If you love cooking and want to work somewhere absolutely stunning, this could be perfect for you.

We’ve got the hotel restaurant and our busy café, Jack Rabbit, so there’s always something happening in the kitchen. You’ll be working alongside our Head Chef who’s been doing this for years and loves teaching people—so if you want to really learn and get better at what you do, this is a great place to be.

Lake Tekapo is honestly amazing. Whether it’s summer or winter, there’s so much to do and the views are incredible. And if you’re overseas and thinking about moving to New Zealand, we’re happy to help with visa sponsorship for someone who’s the right fit.

The role

It’s a permanent, full-time position with guaranteed hours (minimum 30 a week). Most of your shifts will be afternoons, evenings, and weekends. We’ll chat about pay based on your experience—we want to be fair.

Here’s what you’d be doing

• Learning our menus, daily specials, and anything else we’ve got on
• Getting your station ready before service—stocked up and organized
• Making sure we’ve got all the ingredients we need and they’re good quality
• Cooking and prepping food the way we need it done
• Making sure every dish looks great and goes out on time
• Following our recipes properly (consistency matters!)
• Keeping your area clean—we do a proper clean every day
• Following all the food safety rules (the boring but important stuff)
• Helping out the younger or less experienced team members
• Letting the head or sous chef know if we’re running low on anything or if something’s broken
