Job Position: Electrician Needed in New Zealand (Visa Sponsorship Available)
Company: Tauranga City Council
Salary: $72,000 – $80,000
Location: Tauranga Central, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand
Are you a registered sparky who takes pride in doing a clean, safe job? We’re looking for a qualified Electrician to join our Facilities team here at the Tauranga City Council.
This isn’t just “another contract.” You’ll be the person keeping our city’s buildings safe and running smoothly. It’s a hands-on, varied role where you’ll be out in the community every day, working on everything from council offices to residential facilities.
What your day-to-day looks like
You’ll be working a steady 40-hour week (usually 7:00 am – 3:30 pm), handling a mix of planned and reactive work:
- Fault Finding & Repairs: Getting to the bottom of electrical issues and fixing them right the first time.
- Maintenance & Installs: Handling lighting upgrades, minor installations, and testing.
- Independence: You’ll often be out on site on your own, managing your tasks via a tablet/phone.
- On-Call: About once every 8 weeks, you’ll join the on-call roster (with an extra allowance paid, of course).
Why you’ll love working with us
- More Time Off: We offer 5 weeks of annual leave, so you can actually enjoy the Bay of Plenty lifestyle.
- Everything Provided: We supply your vehicle, tools, and specialist equipment for work use.
- A Local Stake: You’re working for the city you live in. It’s secure, stable, and meaningful work.
- Visa Support: For the right qualified candidate, we are open to discussing Visa Sponsorship to help you make the move to New Zealand.
What you’ll need to bring
We’re looking for a professional who doesn’t cut corners. You’ll need:
- The Paperwork: You must be a Registered and Licensed Electrician with a Level 4 qualification (or equivalent).
- Experience: At least 5 years under your belt, specifically in residential or light industrial work.
- The License: A full, clean NZ driver’s license is a must.
- The Mindset: You’re comfortable working solo, you follow safety rules to the letter, and you’re great at communicating with the public and the team.
- Bonus: If you already have IQP registration, that’s a win—if not, we’ll help you get it.
