At fab2, we literally build everything from scratch. We design the hardware and software needed to make semiconductor chips, and we manufacture the fabs, tools, and components ourselves.
The company was started by Sam Zeloof (known for making chips in his garage) and Jim Keller (a semiconductor industry leader for the past 40 years). Our production team fabricates the metal parts, builds the circuit boards, and assembles the tools completely in-house. We’re looking for hands-on, exceptionally talented people who love pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
About the Role
You’ll be a core part of our Production team. Because our sheet metal work, tube bending, and TIG welding all feed into each other, we need “flex operators” who are cross-trained and excited to jump between different fabrication cells depending on what the daily schedule looks like.
What You’ll Be Doing
- TIG Welding: Doing manual TIG welding on stainless gas-distribution tubing and aluminum/stainless steel chamber weldments (using a Miller Dynasty 280 DX). Your welds need to hit helium-leak-tight standards for vacuum prep.
- Laser & Press Brake Ops: Running our Trumpf TruLaser 1030 (nesting, loading sheets, handling scrap, changing nozzles) and setting up/operating our Trumpf TruBend 5085 SX press brake.
- Finishing & Inspection: Operating a FINISHLINE 42″ deburrer, performing first-article inspections on your parts, and cleaning everything to semi-grade standards.
What We’re Looking For
- The Essentials: 3+ years of experience across at least two of these areas: manual TIG welding and sheet metal fabrication (laser + brake).
- Skills: A really strong manual TIG background on aluminum and stainless steel (you can pass an AWS D17.1 or equivalent bend test). You also need to read weld symbols, flat patterns, and tube prints fluently.
- Mindset: You genuinely enjoy running a different machine or cell from one day to the next.
Nice-to-Haves
- Pro efficiency in all three: TIG + sheet metal + tube.
- Specific experience with Trumpf machinery (or Bystronic / Mazak / Amada).
- CWI certification, programming skills (TruTops Boost or T PROJECT), or experience with robotic/cobot welding.
