The Position
Not your usual SRMO role! A new role created to support the department and to help develop their senior Residents transition towards becoming a Registrar. Junior doctors who have an interest in emergency medicine and a strong clinical background are encouraged to apply!

As an SRMO you will provide emergency care to patients attending the Emergency Department (ED), where you will be supported and encouraged to develop and grow throughout the working year as SRMO within ED. If you choose to continue a career in Emergency Medicine, this time fulfills the ED placement criteria to apply to ACEM and we support our doctors wishing to apply to the college. As an SRMO, you’ll enjoy more autonomy without managerial duties, while being supported by on-site FACEM coverage from 0700 to 00:30 every day, with overnight consultant on call. During night shifts, Registrars handle supervisory responsibilities. Their flexible rostering ensures a healthy work-life balance, including provisions for part-time schedules.

The Location
Life in Tasmania is more than just work – it’s a lifestyle. Embrace your true self, mentor young medical professionals, and discover your purpose in this uniquely remote setting. The location nurtures innovation and human bonds, fostering a strong sense of community and exploration. Tasmania boasts stunning coastlines, National Parks, acclaimed dining, and vibrant bars. From early morning surfing to weekend fly fishing, photography classes, or even selling homemade preserves at farmers’ markets, there’s something for everyone. Engage in community activities, volunteer work, or board service. With shorter commutes, you can relish outdoor pursuits like mountain biking and hiking post-work, allowing your family to flourish in a secure, adventurous environment.

The Facility

The hospital serves as Tasmania’s premier referral hospital and primary teaching institution for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. Offering comprehensive medical and surgical services, including pediatrics, obstetrics, and psychiatry, it stands as the state’s tertiary trauma center.
Operating round-the-clock, the Emergency Department (ED) caters to over 75,000 patients annually, admitting more than 35% of cases and a paediatric workload of 20%. With a diverse and often more medically complex patient population, the hospital provides a dynamic setting for healthcare professionals. A Stage 4 accredited site for both adult and paediatric emergency medicine, offering 36 months of training with ACEM or two years of advanced training under the pre-2022 program.

Requirements

  • General or unconditional registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Current Tasmanian Registration to work with vulnerable people (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

Pay
As per Tasmanian state award. A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
