At the Rutherford Hotel, we’re a bit old-school about hospitality. We don’t just serve “customers”—we welcome guests. We want people to feel like they’ve finally arrived home after a long trip. We’re Nelson’s only 24-hour full-service hotel, and our kitchen is the heart of that experience.

We’re lucky enough to be tucked between four national parks. Living here means world-class seafood, local craft beers, and some of the best produce in New Zealand right at your doorstep. We’re looking for someone who doesn’t just want a job, but wants to be an ambassador for this incredible region.

The Role: What You’ll Actually Be Doing

We need a Pastry Chef who loves the “reset” of a fresh bake and the challenge of a busy service. This isn’t just about following recipes; it’s about taking pride in every plate.

• Get Creative: You’ll help us design and prepare à la carte dessert menus using seasonal, local ingredients.
• Master the Scale: One day you’ll be plating delicate desserts; the next, you’ll be managing high-quality bulk production for a large banquet.
• Own Your Station: From mise en place to managing waste and portion control, you’ll keep your section running like a dream.
• Keep Learning: We’re big on development. You’ll work alongside a supportive team that values growth and professional rigour.

• The Expert: You have a solid foundation in pastry and baking. You’ve got the technical skills (and ideally the certification) to show for it.
