About the role:
Provision of Occupational Therapy services across the acute care wards with primary focus on the stroke and neurosciences ward. It is a clinical specialist position and requires advanced reasoning and practice skills. The position operates autonomously with minimal direct supervision and is responsible for providing clinical supervision to the junior staff members working in the area of the Stroke Unit and Neurosciences ward.The Stroke Unit/Neurosciences Occupational Therapist is involved in planning, implementing, evaluating and reporting on Stroke Unit/Neurosciences services.
This involves working with the Director of the Stroke Unit, The Director of Neurosciences, the Stroke Unit Coordinator, Acute Care Team Leader, the Occupational Therapy Manager and appropriate acute inpatient stakeholders to develop the service, coordinate Occupational Therapy-specific Quality Improvement and provide Occupational Therapy input to quality and research activities and collecting appropriate statistics.The Stroke Unit/Neurosciences Occupational Therapist is also responsible for providing specialist advice on the acute occupational therapy – therapeutic management of Stroke/Neurosciences patients in other clinical areas of the hospital.Primary duties include assessment, treatment, home assessment, equipment prescription, discharge planning, and education/monitoring to relevant patients. Assistance to other clinical areas at St Vincent’s Hospital may be required depending on team capacity and workload.
