As a seasonal member of our Research, Development and Innovation team, you will learn how new crop varieties are developed in Western Canada and gain experience in agronomy and crop breeding as you assist with the disease evaluation of experimental varieties and breeding materials. You will also gain practical experience working with farm machinery and driving a truck and trailer. Nutrien Ag Solutions offers a competitive salary with paid overtime. One position is available for a five-month term (May 2024 – September – 2024) in our Pathology department. There is a possibility to extend contracts depending on business needs.

Located at Innovation Place in Saskatoon, SK, as a part of our Pathology Team you will travel extensively throughout Saskatchewan and be involved with the establishment, maintenance, and rating of disease testing plots.

What you will do:

  • Field seed bed preparations and flagging of sites
  • Seed treatment and set-up of seeding envelopes
  • Seeding of small plot field trials and nurseries
  • Operating small plot field equipment such as tractors, seeders, sprayers and tillage tools
  • Applying pesticides to test plots
  • Driving a truck and trailer to move equipment between sites
  • Taking accurate and precise agronomic notes
  • Assisting in plot rating activities
  • Fall land preparation, including application of herbicides and fertilizer
  • Equipment calibration and maintenance
  • Assisting technicians, agronomists and plant breeders with other duties as required
  • Assisting with laboratory field inoculum preparations
  • Extensive travel is required

What you will bring:

  • Punctual, reliable and able to work outdoors
  • A high level of attention to detail resulting in consistent outcomes
  • Proven problem solving and critical thinking abilities in team and individual settings
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract
  • Small plot field trial experience and/or agricultural or farm experience is an asset but not required
  • Mechanical aptitude with farm machinery is an asset but not required
  • Currently enrolled in or finished an undergraduate degree program in Agriculture or a related natural science is an asset but not required
