Job Summary
The MFPP Housing Counselor Coordinator provides foreclosure prevention counseling services to TCHFH homeowners and to homeowners residing in the 7 county metropolitan area. The MFPP Housing Counselor Coordinator serves as an internal subject matter expert providing homeowners with the most effective resources and tools that prevent foreclosure.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Foreclosure Prevention Counselor for MFPP clients.
- Coordinate the intake process and assess applicant qualifications and service needs. Conduct in-person client meetings as needed.
- Develop and implement client action plans to achieve stable housing situations.
- Advise homeowners about mortgage foreclosure statutory timelines, procedures and general processes related to their financing and current status with lenders.
- Track homeowners’ progress against action plans. Prioritize service based on pending critical foreclosure process milestones. Maintain regular contact with homeowners throughout the service period.
- Manage and maintain client and data tracking systems, ensuring reliability and integrity of information.
- Maintain homeowner files, including secured file-destruction.
- Document all activities related to homeowner service, including phone conversations and meetings, actions taken with parties associated with homeowners, etc.
- Maintain and update databases with current applicant and homeowner information.
- Design, update and report results of client satisfaction surveys.
Required Qualifications
Education, credentials, and experience:
- HUD certification Preferred, or 6 months within hire. Must be maintained throughout employment.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working with a financial, non-profit, community development organization or other related fields that involved dealing with the public.
- Minimum 3 years serving clients of diverse races, cultures, and economic backgrounds in a human service setting.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Financial Coaching: Helps individuals or improves their financial situation by providing guidance, education, and support.
- Foreclosure Prevention Counseling: Conducts financial assessment and develops a plan for clients who are at risk of losing their homes due to mortgage default.
- Attention to Detail: Ensures information is complete and accurate and follows up to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled.
- Emotional Intelligence: Manages and expresses emotions appropriately and displays thoughtfulness in reacting to the emotions of others.
Preferred Qualifications
Education, credentials, and experience:
- Knowledge of real estate, mortgages, foreclosure, and household budgeting.
- Familiarity with human service networks in the Metropolitan area.
- MN Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Association (MMFPA) Certification Preferred, or obtained within 6 months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
Physical requirements and work environment
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing, often for prolonged periods.
- The work is performed in an office environment with minor exposure to dust, dirt and conditions normally found on floor surfaces, desks, and furniture.
Hours of work and required travel
- Core business hours are: Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Flexible scheduling may be available.
- Hybrid scheduling (work from home) may be available.
Tools and equipment used
- Basic Proficiency in MS Office, email and use of the Internet.
- Knowledge of client management systems.

COMPENSATION
$57,000 – $58,500 annually dependent on qualifications and experience. Exempt, salaried position with excellent benefit package.
