Gravel Checker (Seasonal) Job Details:

Position SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the Area Supervisor, the Gravel Checker (Seasonal) is responsible to carry out a variety of road maintenance and construction activities.Position Responsibilities

• Repair and replacement of signs and posts

• Assist with the Installation of centerline and approach culverts.

• Assist in clearing beaver dams and debris out of culverts and from under bridges.

• Scale and check gravel on re-gravel and road maintenance projects.

• Work on erosion control projects .

• Construct fences that have been damaged by maintenance activities or road construction.

• Painting of sheds, signs, posts, bridge railings and equipment. .

• Clearing tree salvage and burning brush .

• Assist in the application of the dust control program .

• Perform inventories.

• Operate and maintain equipment (loader, chainsaw, brushmaster and backhoe)

• Remove carcasses and debris from roads and right-of-ways.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12 Diploma

• Completion of WHMIS/TDG courses

• Standard First Aid and Level A CPR course

• Completion of Defensive Driving

• Class 5 drivers License

• Good communication skills

• Physically fit

• Knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

• Small and Heavy Equipment Operations.

• Completion of Flagperson Training.

• Mechanical Aptitude.

• Small and Heavy Equipment Operation (1 year).

• Road Construction and Maintenance (2 years).

• Culvert Repair and Installation (2 years).

• Minimum two (2) years experience in municipal setting.

Working Conditions:

• Work is conducted both in a vehicle and outdoors.

• This position usually works standard office hours: however, overtime is often required.

• Frequent exposure to a wide variety of weather conditions.

• Extensive daily travel.

• Moderate physical effort.

• Frequent visual attention.

• Moderate work related stress/pressure.

The hourly range is $22.93 to $24.96 per hour. This is a seasonal position from approximately April 29, 2024 to August 30, 2024.
