This is a full-time, permanent position working 75 hours bi-weekly.

The Yukon Geological Survey (YGS) acquires and disseminates geological and geohazard knowledge to support exploration; to inform resource and land management planning; to assist with infrastructure development; and to engage communities, schools, and the public.
Reporting to the Head of Minerals Geology, the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: tracking and documenting mineral industry activity in the Yukon, conducting property visits, providing information on Yukon mineral occurrences to clients and government, administering the Yukon Mineral Exploration Program, compiling and entering data into YGS’ databases (e.g., Yukon MINFILE, Exploration Activity, and Exploration Footprints databases) and generating derivative products (e.g., maps, mineral assessment/mineral potential models) from geologic data sets.
Note: This is one of two YGS positions currently being advertised by the Yukon government.
The other YGS position is for the Head of the Minerals Geology unit.

BSc in geology with experience in mineral exploration or with demonstrated knowledge of mineral deposits/mineral systems;
Knowledge of modern mineral exploration techniques;
Experience with technical writing;
Experience with databases, graphics and mapping (GIS) software;
Experience supervising field personnel;
Desired Knowledge, skills and suitability
Candidate should have and may be assessed on their:
Interpersonal and communication skills, including an ability to build consensus and work with partners with a range of values and interests
Knowledge of the Yukon’s geology and mineral occurrences
Conditions of Employment
- Valid class 5 driver’s license
- Pre-employment medical clearance
- Willingness to travel extensively within and outside of the Yukon
- Physically able to carry out field work in remote locations in the Yukon which includes some heavy lifting
