INTRODUCTION
The Animal Care Manager primarily supports boarding/daycare patients and the kennel staff. The Animal Care Manager plans, directs, delegates, coordinates, and performs duties concerning all kennel staff, patients, and client service. The main objective of this position is to ensure a positive workflow for the kennel staff and is responsible for creating a positive experience for all clients bringing in pets for boarding/daycare. The Animal Care Manager is responsible for addressing the concerns of the clients & the kennel staff and bringing any unresolved issues to the General Manager’s attention. The Animal Care Manager operates under the direct supervision of the General Manager. This overview of the position is not limited to the duties listed.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Prepare/oversee the kennel staff work schedule and daily kennel schedule.
Develop/maintain department manual and training manual.
Complete training of all new hires for kennel staff.
Understand Kennel Manual and ensure compliance with protocols.
Develop/maintain equipment repair log
Direct/train Kennel staff
Maintain and order all kennel equipment and supplies, using systems set up
Oversee completion of daily checklists.
Check out Kennel Staff at the end of shifts ensuring completion of duties.
Sign out Kennel staff, and keep a log of checklists.
Continue education related to patient care to remain up to date on current patient care.
Work closely with General Manager to develop new protocols as needed.
Review and evaluate kennel assistants on a quarterly and annual basis.
Conduct interviews and participate in the hiring, terminating, and disciplining of kennel staff in partnership with and/or as directed by the General Manager.
Schedule Quarterly Meetings for Kennel & Boarding Staff members, working with the Management team to address any concerns.
Attend Monthly management team Meetings.
Work with the Management team to complete projects that improve the facility.
Act as a liaison between clients & the facility when situations arise with Boarding/Day Care Patients.
TECHNICAL DUTIES
Stock/order supplies used in the Kennel.
Assist kennel staff with the completion of duties as needed.
Staff appropriately for slower and busier times, utilizing kennel staff as appropriate to care for pets.
Ensure cleanliness of Kennel & areas.
Keep the General Manager informed of any repairs or replacements needed for equipment.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Animal Care Manager reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with other managers, including the Grooming Manager and Client Service Manager.
Recognize non-routine or unusual situations and refer them to management staff.
Complete documentation of interactions with clients.
Properly Document any concerns in the patient file.
Adhere to all policies in the Employment Manual.
Follow all procedures as written in the Department Manual.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform tasks assigned to veterinary supervisors as needed, including inventory.
Communicate with other staff members regarding the needs of the patients.
Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Support other technicians as needed by helping in other areas of the facility.
Provide leadership to kennel assistants.
Communicate with front office personnel regarding the needs of clients.
SAFETY
Follow OSHA guidelines concerning the safety and handling of hazardous materials.
Follow established facility and company safety guidelines regarding animal handling, bite wounds, etc.
Perform monthly safety checklist
Perform Monthly kennel maintenance checklist
Ensure that any on-the-job injuries are appropriately documented and resolved.
Update and maintain the safety program to comply with company-wide policies and procedures.
PERSONAL CONDUCT
Adhere to all facility policies and standards.
Serve as a facility representative, displaying tact, consideration, courtesy, compassion, professionalism, and a positive attitude in all interactions with patients, clients, and all facility staff members.
ATTITUDE/TEAMWORK
Demonstrate teamwork and initiative by assisting other employees
PUNCTUALITY AND ATTENDANCE
Adhere to the work schedule, arrive for work promptly, and be ready to begin working at the start time.
Follow facility policies for requesting time off and for reporting lateness and absences.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Required:
Management Experience, including scheduling, budgets, disciplinary actions & performing employee evaluations.
At least two years of recent experience with some experience in patient care in a boarding facility/veterinary practice with increasing responsibilities.
Ability to appropriately handle, lift and restrain animals (dogs, cats, exotics, etc.) and stand for long periods.
Have basic organizational, computer, and technical skills.
