Sr. Agricultural Scientist, Fruiting Crops Job Details:

What You Will Do:

  • Translate company strategy into long-term projects, and short and intermediate-term experiments.
  • Design and execute experiments in CEA research rooms, small pilots, and production scale vertical farms with strawberries and other fruiting crops to drive yield and quality.
  • Act as a technical liaison to monitor operations and train operating staff for commercial farm launch.
  • Plan, manage and update projects with Project Management software.
  • Collect phenotypic and environmental data to drive insights in crop performance.
  • Analyze data and report experimental results to the AgScience Team and the Company.
  • Communicate scientific insights to peers and leadership.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on fruiting crop production throughout Bowery.
  • Collaborate with external partners and suppliers. Lead by example to inspire, train and engage team members.

Who You Are:

  • Degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Multiple years of experience with fruiting crop production systems in greenhouse, high tunnel, open field, or CEA.
  • Experience with optimization of fruiting crop growing conditions, systems, and processes for fruit production.
  • Extensive knowledge of plant physiology, experimental design, field trials and statistical analysis.
  • Curiosity and innovative use of technology in plant science.
  • Well-versed in irrigation management systems: ET models, soil moisture probes and automated irrigation techniques.
  • Confident with plant nutrition, fertilizer, and tissue testing.
  • Familiar with CEA environmental control systems: Trane, Priva, Argus, Growlink, Ridder or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Experience in a collaborative and cross-disciplinary team of Scientists and Engineers to optimize growing conditions, systems, and processes.
  • History of impact from scientific research including previous publication. Ability to clearly communicate complex scientific concepts to cross-functional teams and hourly staff.
  • Experience training, and communicating experimental protocols to hourly staff.
