SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Pipeline Welder performs welding assignments on elevated pressurized systems for the installation, fabrication, modification and repair of storage, transmission and distribution systems and facilities in accordance with standards, specifications and accepted industry practices.

This job description is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, required skills or related duties which may be assigned or requested.Position DetailsUnion – This position is permanent full time.Core ResponsibilitiesDaily Welding/Construction AssignmentsPlan for safe work procedures and take every reasonable precaution to protect self, other workers and the general public in the performance of duties including following all COMP’s and procedures.Perform welding assignments on live lines of varying pressure, requiring all-position welding methods, in compliance with Corporate standards and federal and provincial regulations (as outlined in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Canadian Standards Association codes).Perform welding assignments for storage, distributing and transmission facility fabrications in compliance with Corporate standards and federal and provincial regulations (that are capable of passing non-destructive testing i.e. radiography, magnetic particle and ultra-sonic testing, as outlined in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Canadian Standards Association codes).As the qualified incumbent, oversee the work of other employees/contractors as assigned. This includes training and guidance of the Pipeline Welder Apprentice.Load and unload construction equipment and related materialAssist and perform various construction duties for the installation, maintenance and repair of natural gas distribution and transmission facilities. This includes but not limited to:Weld, cut, coat and wrap steel pipe.Cut and fuse polyethylene pipe.Tap (isolate pipeline or redirect gas flow) distribution mains for the connection of service lines.Pipe fitting.Assemble and disassemble mechanical components.Perform high-pressure taps.Perform other duties as needed such as: hand shoveling, raking, sweeping, priming and painting, landscaping, rough carpentry, cement work etc.Hot Taps and Hot Tie-insPerform hot taps and hot tie-ins, capable of passing non-destructive testing (i.e. radiography, magnetic particle and ultra sonic testing).Daily Assignment and Welding AdministrationInterpret and perform calculations from construction drawings for system and facility fabrication and, if needed, inform designer of on-site discrepancy to design.Prepare vehicles for assignments by:stocking supplies and materials needed,maintaining and servicing vehicles as needed,performing pre-trip inspections.For welding assignments completed, prepare required forms and reports, such as weld mapping blueprints.Perform maintenance and service of construction equipment, truck and trailer vehicles ensuring their safe and efficient operation.Document assignment requirements, outlining such things as piping and materials used in fabrication, hours worked, vehicle mileage and costs incurred.QualificationsEducationGrade 12 or equivalent.Journeyperson Certificate of Qualification (Welder Certificate).Valid Saskatchewan Municipal Government Pressure Welder’s Certificate designated P1-F3-F4 on NPS-2 (Sch 160) pipe (copy must accompany job applications).Valid Oxy-acetylene Welder Certificate designated P1-F6 on NPS-1 1/4 pipe.In-Service Weld Test (Welding a 1/2′ service tee, and a simulated 1 1/4′ short stop on NPS-6 line pipe pressurized to 100 psig, while heat inputs are monitored).Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.ExperienceFour (4) years natural gas construction experience working on pressurized natural gas pipelines.Non-Optional RequirementsConstruction & Maintenance Course.SaskEnergy/TransGas P.E. (Polyethylene) Fusion Ticket.SaskEnergy/TransGas Line Locating Course.Class B Crane & Hoist Operator Certificate or equivalent.Applicable mandatory Occupational Health & Safety training, certifications and other Corporately required training and certification.Successful applicants who do not possess a 1A driver’s licence are required to obtain the licence prior to the expiration of the probationary period. On a one time basis, the Company will pay the tuition fees for 1A training at an established educational institution and provincial examination fees during this time period. The applicants are required to attend any training and/or examinations on their own time.Successful job applicants are required to provide their most recent Commercial Driver Medical Report to Human Resources not later than 30 days after being announced to the position. Failure to provide the medical report will result in being removed from the position.Successful job applicants are required to provide a current driver’s abstract within two (2) working days after being announced to the position.
