Duties

STREAM 1: GL-MAN-02 – Provides general labour services to support grounds, roads and facilities maintenance. This includes installation and repair of facilities, structures, and fencing as well as other general labour requirements. This position involves general computer use.

STREAM 2: GL-MAN-03 – Provides general labour services to support grounds, roads and facilities maintenance. This includes installation and repair of facilities, structures, and fencing as well as other general labour requirements. This position involves general computer use. Ensures workplace compliance to occupational health and safety requirements. As Labourer Maintenance Worker ll, you may be required to supervise a small group of employees.

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process

The intent of the process is to fill various term and seasonal indeterminate appointments. These seasonal indeterminate appointments will occur annually and depending on the position being offered could range from 4 to 10 months/year.

EDUCATION:
High School diploma or a combination of training, education and experiences relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
BOTH STREAMS (GL-MAN-02/03):
• Experience in general grounds maintenance, in areas such as:
o lawn mowers, weed whips and landscaping
o painting, cleaning facilities, and trail maintenance.

STREAM 2 (GL-MAN-03):
• Experience in road maintenance and/or tree work and/or wire animal fence construction and maintenance.
• Experience leading a small crew of teammates.

• Knowledge of basic maintenance of small equipment and vehicles.

• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

STREAM 2 (GL-MAN-03):

Asset Qualifications:
STREAM 1 (GL-MAN-02):
• Ability to detect and repair basic anomalies with equipment or in the work environment.

STREAM 2 (GL-MAN-03):
Preference may be given to persons with:
• A class 5 Drivers licence with air brake endorsement and/or equipment operators or relevant experience.
• A certification for chain saw use.

Conditions of employment

SECURITY SCREENING: Obtain and maintain Reliability Status Clearance.
Obtain and maintain valid class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment.
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation.
• Willingness to work in a wildlife setting.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required.
