As the Lead Operations and Maintenance Technician for our wind farms, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the safe execution of planned maintenance, oversee scheduled tasks, manage contractor hires, and supervise all related work. This includes troubleshooting, inspecting, and repairing substations, as well as generating daily and weekly reports using computerized work order systems. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering and management, and serve as the main point of contact for turbine contractors and landowners, reporting directly to the site manager. Prompt responsiveness is crucial, as you must be able to reach the site within one hour during outages and emergencies. Your team will comprise between eight (8) to fifteen (15) external contractors, whom you’ll manage to ensure all site equipment functions correctly and adheres to safety standards through calibrations, testing, and maintenance procedures. Additionally, you’ll coordinate switch activities with external partners and regulators, while providing necessary on-site training to technicians as required.

  • Ensure site safety rules are communicated and adhered to through Site Specific Orientations, JSAs and Tailboard Meetings
  • Operate site equipment, both directly and remotely
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills that include listening to other’s ideas and viewpoints, earning trust, and resolving conflict situations
  • Perform the housekeeping functions and equipment cleaning necessary to maintain the site in a clean and neat condition.
  • Demonstrate the consistent use of Root Cause Failure Analysis techniques when solving plant abnormalities and equipment failures

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum two (2) year diploma in a technical program or minimum two (2) years of experience equivalent experience including knowledge in high voltage, licensed industrial electrician, wind turbine technician, lineman, millwright, control technician
  • You must be capable of using a computer and software tools to analyze plant performance data and prepare reports or presentations and communicate with the control room and other field employees
  • You must be knowledgeable in electrical to be able to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain substation equipment such as: electrical control circuits, transformers, high voltage breakers and collection lines
  • Required to be on call as deemed necessary by supervisor for outage and emergencies
  • You must have or able to attain AVO substation technician certification within 12 months of hire

Additional Details

  • This role requires daily attendance at worksite
  • Must possess a valid Canadian driver’s license/clean driving record
  • Must be willing and able to comply with ENGIE’s policy with respect to COVID vaccination and testing
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • The position consists of 30% work indoors and 70% work outdoors; outdoor work may expose the employee to weather conditions
  • Could involve some lifting to 50 lbs

Compensation

Salary Range: 33.45$ – 54.40$ CAD / hourly

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan and emergency, or on-call pay.
