What the Role Involves
This is a hands-on role where you’ll be working across overhead lines, underground cables, and electrical network equipment — from 400V right up to 50kV. You’ll help keep the lights on by responding to faults, carrying out repairs, and making sure the system keeps running smoothly and safely.
You’ll be out in the field, working with a skilled team, and sometimes traveling to nearby sites. No two days are quite the same — but your work will always matter.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Finding and fixing faults on the electrical network
- Responding to emergency callouts and carrying out urgent repairs
- Performing switching tasks based on instructions from the control room
- Testing circuits, cables, and lines to keep everything in check
- Working at heights and operating safely on network structures
- Carrying out joints and replacements on conductors and service pillars
- Keeping accurate records of your work — including photos and asset details
- Following all health and safety rules (we take safety very seriously)
What We’re Looking For
We’re after someone who knows their way around power distribution and has experience in the field. Ideally, you’ll bring:
- A Level 4 Certificate in Electricity Supply (Line Mechanic Distribution) or an equivalent qualification from overseas
- An EWRB Electrical Practising Licence (or willingness to get one once you arrive)
- At least 5 years of experience working in electricity distribution
- A solid understanding of distribution systems up to 33kV
- A full NZ Class 1 driver’s licence (or an international equivalent you can convert)
Bonus Skills (Nice, but not essential)
- A Level 4 Certificate in Fault Response & Switching
- EWP (Elevated Work Platform) training
- Experience with tree compliance on distribution networks
