The purpose of this position is to perform skilled electrical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, calibration, and repair of City of Tempe building according to job specification.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Provide expertise in the electrical field to assist maintenance staff.
Receive and prioritize City-wide electrical work requests and malfunction emergencies, schedule repairs and preventative maintenance.
Wire outlets, relocate fixtures, lighting and power panels.
Repair relays, heavy duty fuses, high current heaters, heating and ventilation circuits, photo and electric eyes, time clocks and transformers
Assists in coordinating facility electrical service activities with other City departments, divisions and sections and with outside agencies.
Requires three (3) years of full-time experience as an electrician.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Requires the equivalent to a high school diploma, GED or equivalency, and completion of a two (2) year electrical apprenticeship program or training.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).
Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registrations:
Possession of a valid driver’s license at time of application.
Possession of an Arizona Electrician License (Commercial) is preferred.
