A research technician position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Hearing in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI.

Dr. Hearing’s laboratory is part of a diverse, collegial and highly interactive group of neuroscience research laboratories in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Marquette University. More information about this research project and the department can be found at .

Duties and Responsibilities

The Hearing lab uses behavioral, genetic, neurophysiological, and in vivo neural activity approaches to study changes in brain function that underlie opioid addiction and neuropsychiatric disorders related to stress. The successful applicant will perform surgical procedures in mice, manage individual research project. This management will include conducting experiments on a regular basis using state of the art technology as well as collecting and assisting in data analysis and manuscript preparation. Additional responsibilities will include maintenance of our mouse colony and general lab and managing undergraduate research assistants as needed. Preferred applicants will have experience with research project oversight and management, including data management and analysis.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or high school education (some college preferred) with 1-2 years of related lab experience. Must be willing to work flexible hours as necessary. Successful candidate will be expected to exhibit individual initiative, work independently; be technically proficient and accurate; effectively communicate in both written reports and presentations; initiate and ensure compliance with applicable safety procedures; and possess attention to detail.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree in a related field – preferably neuroscience, biomedical sciences, or bioengineering.
