About the Position:

The Library Systems and Access Services Librarian plays a crucial role in managing the library’s integrated library system (ILS) and ensuring smooth access to library resources and services for patrons. This role involves overseeing the technical aspects of the ILS, providing circulation function support for library users and staff, and collaborating with various departments to enhance the overall user experience.

Job Duties:

  • **Integrated Library System (ILS) Management:**
  • Administer and maintain the library’s integrated library system, including system configurations, updates, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with the ILS vendor and IT department to ensure proper functioning of the system and resolve technical issues.
  • Configure and customize the ILS interface to improve user experience and streamline workflows.
  • **Access Services:**
  • Oversees library accounts, patron records, library card categories and process, and manages loan parameters (holds process, loan periods etc) for library materials.
  • Collaborate with interlibrary loan services to facilitate resource sharing with other libraries.
  • **User Support:**
  • Provide support to frontline staff and library patrons, assisting with inquiries related to the ILS, account management, and navigating library resources.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues faced by library staff and users, guiding them through the process of accessing digital resources and utilizing library services.
  • **Data Management and Reporting:**
  • Generate reports and analyze data from the ILS to assess library usage trends, circulation patterns, and resource popularity.
  • Compile statistics for management and contribute to data-driven decision-making processes.
  • **Training and Outreach:**
  • Develop training materials and conduct workshops to educate library staff and patrons about the ILS functionalities and best practices.
  • Collaborate with other library departments to promote library services and resources through outreach events, presentations, and workshops.
  • **Collaboration and Integration:**
  • Collaborate with cataloging and technical services librarians to ensure accurate and timely cataloging of new materials in the ILS.
  • Coordinate with cataloging and technical services librarians to integrate electronic resources seamlessly into the ILS interface.
  • Work with the marketing and communications team to ensure consistent and accurate promotion of library services.

**Required Experience:**

  • – Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
  • – Strong understanding of integrated library systems (ILS), library automation, and library operations.
  • – Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting ILS software, preferably with experience in commonly used systems and discovery tools.
  • – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective patron assistance and staff collaboration.
  • – Familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools to generate meaningful insights.
  • – Customer service orientation and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, user-focused environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • -Fluency in a language other than English, especially one or more of those spoken by a substantial portion of Jersey City’s population, including Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Gujarati, or Tagalog.

This vacancy is associated with a New Jersey Civil Service job title. The New Jersey Civil Service Commission requires all incumbents to possess and be prepared to verify the minimum experience and skills required for the associated Civil Service job title.

This position is subject to residency requirements as set forth in the New Jersey First Act and not available for work visa sponsorship.
