Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.


The Global Data and Analytics Engineering (DAE) organization of Liberty Mutual US Retail Markets is expanding its data modeling team. DAE Data Modelers design analytical and transactional databases that translate complex business data into usable computer systems. Data Modelers work with data architects to design databases and data structures that meet organizational needs using conceptual, logical, and physical data models. Their models are designed to improve efficiency and business value and may focus on issues such as reducing data redundancy, improving data quality, or improving data movement across systems.

An ideal DAE Data Modeler is an analytical and creative thinker who is not intimidated by roadblocks and challenges. They understand how to successfully evaluate problems and develop appropriate solutions. Data Modelers perform well under pressure, possessing great focus while completing projects efficiently. They should be able to work well as part of a team, but also carry responsibility for their own work. Data Modelers also need to be able to work on multiple projects at a time, with the ability to quickly understand and incorporate new technologies.

*Note – this role can be 100% remote but preference will be for Eastern or Central time zone to align best with other members of this team.

What you will do:

  • Work with the Data Office, Data Architects, DAE and Application Development teams to translate business needs into practical data models.
  • Responsible for designing and building highly complex data models and data architecture that improve accessibility, efficiency, governance and data quality that directly impact business results.
  • Consult on designing and developing programs and tools to support ingestion, curation and provisioning of highly complex enterprise data to achieve analytics, reporting, and data science.
  • Develop and enhance data solutions for identified gaps and needs.
  • Create and maintain Conceptual, Logical and Physical Data Models using Data Vault 2.0 for our data warehouse.
  • Create and maintain Conceptual, Logical and Physical Data Models for our reporting layer and Information Marts.
  • Define and communicate data standards, industry best practices, technologies, and architecture.
  • Perform data object name translations and apply standards to align data warehouse with ACORD industry standards.
  • Support development teams with application database design and mentoring.
  • Support monthly DB2 mainframe database changes to accommodate upstream source system enhancements.
  • Participate in Data Governance procedures and policy management.
  • Contribute policies and guidelines for the governance of Data Management standards and best practices.
  • Analyze Informatica PowerCenter jobs and lineage for migration and modernization efforts.
  • Create complex SQL statements to profile data, optimize performance, and perform data analysis for database design input.
  • Create DDL/DML to deploy database structures and perform data loads.


What you will need:

  • 15 years minimum experience with at least 10 years designing data models for Enterprise Data Warehouses & Information Marts.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar field.
  • Database design experience across data warehousing and analytic data stores.
  • Design experience using Erwin Data modeler, IDA or other related data modeling tools.
  • Experience modeling using Data Vault 2.0 methodology and Snowflake data warehousing technologies.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Enterprise Canonical Models.
  • Experience performing data modeling as part of Agile software development.
  • Experience with SQL development and DDL generation.
  • Experience translating Conceptual models into Logical and Physical Data Warehouse models leveraging Canonical standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on large-scale data projects.
  • Ability to lead sessions with stakeholders to determine data rules and review data models.
  • Ability to coach and mentor members of data engineering team.

Experience in these areas is a plus:

  • Experience with ETL tools such as Informatica and Snaplogic.
  • Experience working with ACORD insurance industry standards.
  • Experience in insurance industry data concepts.
  • Exposure to Business Intelligence tools such as PowerBI and MicroStrategy.
  • Exposure to messaging solutions such as Kafka and MQ.
  • Software Development experience with Python or JavaScript.
  • Experience in Enterprise Reference and Master Data Management strategies.
