Northwest Kidney Centers seeks a Compliance & Privacy Officer in a full-time, hybrid position.

Purpose:

The Compliance & Privacy Officer serves as Northwest Kidney Center’s (NKC) primary point of contact and subject matter expert for all compliance and privacy related matters. The incumbent will have oversight for the organization’s compliance programs and will act as the representative to internal and external groups on compliance and privacy related matters. This position serves a unique role in ensuring that the organization meets all compliance and privacy related goals and objectives. To ensure the success of the compliance programs, this position has a dual reporting responsibility to the VP of Legal Affairs/CCO and the Board of Trustees for Northwest Kidney Centers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, business or another related field required.
  • 5 years of experience in healthcare with oversight of privacy, HIPAA, and compliance programs.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills with the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels in the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with executives and Board members.
  • Understanding of health care operational, financial, quality assurance and human resource procedures and regulations.
  • Experience with developing computer- generated reports and databases.
  • Background in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, fraud, and abuse laws.
  • Analytical skills to review compliance data and conduct investigations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages the corporate compliance and HIPAA compliance programs.
  • Develops and executes on annual compliance programs.
  • Develops an annual planning cycle for routine compliance reviews in conjunction with leadership.
  • Acts as compliance subject matter expert, particularly with respect to HIPAA privacy; maintains a current working knowledge of Federal and State regulations and policies as they affect NKC, as well as key compliance and privacy issues and risk management methodologies.
  • Helps design and oversee HIPAA training and compliance monitoring with other appropriate areas of organization.
  • Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises the Code of Conduct, compliance and privacy policies and procedures and other compliance communication for the general operation of the Compliance Programs. Ensures that the Code of Conduct, compliance, and privacy policies are readily available and disseminated to the organization.
  • Leads the Executive Compliance Committee and presents compliance reports directly to the Board Compliance Committee.
  • Reviews and evaluates compliance issues/concerns with the organization; in conjunction with the VP, Legal Affairs/CCO and HR leadership, as warranted, conducts investigations of suspected non-compliance issues that fall within the compliance program objectives.
  • Supports a culture of compliance and ethics in the organization including the ability for employees, patients, or vendors to raise concerns in good faith.
  • Conducts internal compliance audits/reviews in collaboration with key leaders.
  • Completes annual compliance risk assessment. Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, develops, and implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and appropriate risk mitigation efforts.
  • Provides oversight and governance structure for policies in the organization including review cycle, approval process and standardized templates.
  • Provides input into the mandatory education and training requirements for employees. Maintains compliance-related records and ensures record retention processes are in place with subject matter experts.
  • Reports violations or potential violations to duly authorized agencies as appropriate and/or required.
  • Develops, coordinates, and conducts compliance and privacy training and promotion in collaboration with other functional areas (e.g., HR, Finance) for existing and new employees.
  • Consults with the VP of Legal Affairs/CCO as needed to resolve complex legal compliance issues.
  • In collaboration with the VP of Legal Affairs/CCO, responds to government investigations and queries.
