Description

The Community and Family Services Coordinator assists in organization of food bank and distribution of donations. The Community and Family Services Coordinator supervises CFS Staff and volunteers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/protection issues), determining immediate needs and supports needed by the client.
  • Provide emergency assistance and/or other forms of direct service for clients applicable to the program.
  • Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical records. Using Link2Feed and SAMIS as required.
  • Assists in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the food bank and family services area.
  • Responsible to oversee the Kitchen / Soup Kitchen and supervises cook and volunteers in the Soup Kitchen or other programs.
  • Works under the direction of the Corps Officer / Local MU leader to provide food through the Food Bank and Soup Kitchen to help meet needs through programming to those needing assistance.
  • Recruits, trains, and coordinates volunteers according to Salvation Army policies & procedures.
  • Record and maintain statistical information within parameters set by The Salvation Army and funders/program.
  • Represent the Salvation Army Community & Family Services while working with other service agencies to advocate for clients.
  • CFS Coordinator will plan and facilitate all in-house programs including mailings and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • May use funds to purchase supplies for program and keep food bank stocked.
  • Work in organizing seasonal or special programs (income tax preparation, Summer Camps, Toy drives, Lunch programs etc.)
  • Continue the ongoing networks with government, social service providers, schools and community organizations to co-ordinate resources for the benefit of the client
  • Provide Corps Officers with weekly reports on current activities.
  • Responsible for Christmas food hampers, Toy packing and distribution.
  • Offers and/or refers clients to Corps Officer for Spiritual Care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Internal:

  • MU staff and Officers
  • Volunteers and congregation members

External:

  • Service agencies, Liaises with Police, funders, community agencies, families, and other staff members, community network.

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Corps Officer / Ministry Leader

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • The incumbent will be involved in financial resources, (ie Christmas Kettles)
  • Effective distribution of food bank donations

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The work environment is typically in the office space
  • The incumbent may have some travel. (Program Van is provided)
  • The incumbent may have occasional evening work or Saturdays.
  • This job requires the ability to work independently while part of a team, set priorities, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • The employee may come in contact with people who are often angry, possibly violent, and vulnerable.
  • The performance of the job requires continuously sitting for long periods of time, entering client data and may include some lifting.

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position reports directly to the Corps Officer / Ministry Leader

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Have two but less than three years prior related experience, including frontline experience in a social service environment.
  • Training in Vulnerability Assessment Tool (VAT)
  • Training in crisis intervention, conflict resolution and mediation skills is essential.
  • Must have First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Have a knowledge of, and sensitivity to those experiencing poverty and of the issues facing clients.
  • Must have a Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Ability to identify sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be sensitive to and respectful of cultural and lifestyle diversity.
  • Willingness to take on-going training necessary for the position when needed.
  • Able to lift up to 20lbs with assistance.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding for individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds
  • Good computer skills with working knowledge of MS Office
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Food Handling Course
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude towards the homeless and individuals with substance abuse and concurrent problems, including mental health concerns.
  • Ability to work through conflict effectively.

Working Conditions:

  • 35 hours per week. – Medical, Dental and RRSP benefit options available after successful completion of 3 month probationary period.
  • $22.00 per hour
